Ball joints are essentially spherical bearings that connect the control arms to the steering knuckles. On modern vehicles, ball joints are the pivot between the wheels and the suspension of your car. Nowadays, they are almost always used in the front suspension of cars and have a critical role in safe steering and suspension.
Ball joints are either load-carrying or follower types and their position in the suspension will differ depending on the actual suspension design. Load-carrying ball joints are designed to support the weight of the vehicle while providing a pivot point for the steering system. Follower ball joints are designed to maintain precise dimensional tolerances as well as a pivot point for the steering system. Due to the added load supporting function of it job, it is the load-carrying ball joint that will fail first and need to be replaced more often. If a ball joint fails, the results can be dangerous. The wheel's angle will become unconstrained, causing a loss of control and uneven tire wear. As with all our parts, Mchanix uses high quality materials such as synthetic rubber and forged rods to manufacture premium quality ball joints that isolate NVH and support great driving comfort and vehicle safety. |
